Puerto Vallarta Zoo
Zoologico de Vallarta

The Puerto Vallarta Zoo is not like your average Canadian or United States Zoo. Here you will get the opportunity to interact with many of the zoo's animals.

Can you imagine feeding a giraffe or petting a hippo? Playing with tiger cubs is another favorite at Zoologico de Vallarta. The possibilities are endless and everybody has a great time here.

One of the easiest ways to get to the zoo is by bus. You can take a bus from downtown Puerto Vallarta. The bus should be labelled Mismaloya as this is the community the zoo is located in. The bus will stop on the highway in front of the Hotel Barcelo. This is the zoo's drop off location as well. You will now need to cross the highway and follow the road closest to the river for 800 meters. Bring comfortable shoes because there is lots of walking required.

If you have a car, you can take the highway leading to Barra de Navidad. When you reach the Hotel Barcelo, turn left and follow the road 800 meters. There are signs as well pointing you to the Puerto Vallarta Zoo. Once again, I will stress bring good walking shoes! There is a lot of walking required to get around the zoo. Also at this time, it is not handicapped accessible.

Now that you have made it here, keep in mind that the zoo is open daily from 8am till 6pm. The prices are very reasonable for entry, only 100 pesos for adults and 50 pesos for children. It is highly recommended that you purchase food bags so you can feed the animals along the way. This will cost 50 pesos per bag.

Once inside, you can just go off on your own or you can also go on a one hour guided tour.  Prices for this range from 40 to 150 pesos per person depending on how many people are in your group. The Puerto Vallarta Zoo also offers VIP packages starting at $50.00 USD to $100.00 USD per person.

The zoo is set up in a jungle area to give it more of a wildlife feeling and to keep the animals as close to nature as possible. Do not be too shocked to see that the animals living quarters are smaller than what we are used to back in the States and Canada. The Zoologico de Vallarta is home to more then 700 different bird, reptile and mammal species.

Whatever you do at the zoo, enjoy yourself. Take lots of photos and videos. Wear good walking shoes. Make sure to wash up after petting all the animals. Have a great day!
